 Basic Grammar The Verb To be

Part Two
The contraction or short form of verb to be (am,is,are)
Tip: we can shorten am, is and are in the sentence. However, it is not so official. Normally, we use short form in speaking.
Look at the following contraction form of am, is and are by using apostrophe ' s
Long form. Short form Negative form
I am I'm I'm not
You are You're You're not/You aren't
We are We're We're not/We aren't
They are They're They're not/They aren't
He is He's He's not/ He isn't
She is She's She's not/ She isn't
It is It's It's not / It isn't
Examples
1. I'm happy to take the exam, but I'm not satisfied with the grade I received.
2. You're my friend, but you aren't honest to me.
3. We're classmates, so we aren't selfish with each other.
4. They're brothers but they aren't alike.
5. He's my boyfriend, so he isn't yours.
6. She's my sister, but she isn't kind to me.
7. It's a good dog, but today it isn't good to me.
